2017 Rotary District Conference: A review
The conference commences with a Sundowner on the 24th March 2017 from 6pm – 10pm including “Bollywood” dancers! Now that doesn’t sound like some Rotary clubs I’ve been to!
A full day conference on Saturday the 25th March with the opening and introduction given by Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AC Governor of Western Australia. Followed by a comprehensive and informative session on the youth exchange programme by Norm de Grusser.
School children will be present at various times during the day as there are so many inspirational speakers including past exchange student Shequita Bonney and Neralda Jacobs former Rotary Study Group participant and current Channel 10 News Journalist. To round off the youth exchange segment, we’ll hear from WA Youth of the Year Rhys Williams and district 9455 Peace Scholar Natasha Venable.
The afternoon starts with a stirring, personal account of Bali Bomb survivor Phil Britten and his journey through his own personal hell, not just his horrific injuries but the emotional and psychological trauma he lives with daily. This story leads us into an in depth discussion about mental health, something most of us can relate to either through our own journey or that of a family member or friend. Petrina Bishop Mental Health Professional sings her way to mental health with gusto (you’ll have to be there) followed by Phil Aylwood Mental Health Speaker and his adventures during his “Ride Across Australia”!
The motivational trip doesn’t stop there as we have David Bunney Motivational Speaker and Danny Green World Boxing Champion and Motivational Speaker (let’s hope he’s recovered from his last bout) both these speakers are well sort after and are sure to grab your attention.
Of course we’ll also hear more about the Rotary Foundation and the Polio Eradication Story and meet John Soe a Rotarian and Polio survivor.
There will be a break for you to get on your glad rags and dancing shoes as the night will still be young enough for us all to trip the light fantastic after a scrumptious dinner!
Sunday morning 26th March features Rotary projects and the Four Way Speaking contest and awards along with Optional Tours to various projects in the afternoon.
The conference will give Rotarians and clubs a vision of Rotary beyond the club level and provide a memorable fellowship experience. Many Rotarians have said that they were never truly enthusiastic about Rotary until they saw an inspirational presentation at a district conference.
Rotarians, it’s your chance to connect with Rotary members from around the State. You’ll build new relationships and exchange ideas across cultures.

Innovation this year sees us open the conference to the General Public along with the Field of Friendship being open to the public all day on Saturday.
